Post-operative care after double eyelid surgery

1. The first 48 hours or the first two days after double eyelid surgery, you should apply a cold compress around the eyes and forehead. If you have more time, it is recommended to apply the cold compress frequently, as it helps stop bleeding and reduces swelling. The more frequently you apply it, the faster the swelling will subside. You can use a plastic bag with ice and wrap it in a clean cloth, or buy a gel pack, chill it, and apply it as well.
2. After double eyelid surgery, the clinic or hospital will provide an ointment to apply on the eyelid where the surgery was performed. The ointment helps to cover and protect the wound.
3. Take the prescribed medication as directed by the doctor, especially the anti-inflammatory and swelling-reducing medication provided by the clinic.
4. Clean the wound on the eyelid using a cotton ball soaked in clean, warm water. Gently wipe the area around the wound. Afterward, apply the ointment provided by the clinic.
5. You can wash your face normally after 3 days post-surgery, but use warm water to wash your face, as it helps make it easier to clean the skin.
6. Avoid rubbing your eyes vigorously and be cautious when coughing or sneezing to prevent post-surgical bleeding.
7. Avoid spicy food, fermented foods, alcohol, and smoking.
8. One week after the double eyelid surgery, the doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment to check the healing progress and remove the stitches.
9. After double eyelid surgery, swelling is common, especially within the first 3 days. The swelling will gradually subside and return to normal. After the third day, you can return to your normal activities and work.
