Techniques for applying sunscreen for the best results

One of the biggest problems is applying sunscreen. No matter how much you apply, it still doesn’t seem to work. This could be because the sunscreen isn’t effective and doesn’t stay on well. With the hot weather, this can be quite frustrating for everyone. So, we have some tips for applying sunscreen that will make it more effective and give visible results.

Why must you apply sunscreen?

This is because sunlight contains various types of radiation, such as UV, UVA, UVB, and others, which are the main causes of skin issues like freckles, dark spots, wrinkles, and even skin cancer. An easy way to protect yourself from these problems is by applying sunscreen every day. Sunscreen helps protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays, preventing potential damage.

Choose a sunscreen that suits your skin type.

  • Fair skin: Fair skin is highly sensitive to sunlight, so it’s recommended to use sunscreen with a higher SPF than usual.
  • Fair with pink undertones: This skin type is delicate and can burn quickly, causing the skin to tan. It’s best to use sunscreen with a high SPF (SPF 30-45).
  • Yellow-toned fair skin: This type is also delicate but contains some melanin (pigment), allowing it to tolerate sunlight better than the first two types. You should use sunscreen with a moderate SPF (SPF 30).
  • Dark skin: Dark skin contains more melanin and doesn’t burn or tan easily. For this skin type, sunscreen with a lower SPF (SPF 15) is sufficient.

How to apply sunscreen

  • It is recommended to apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going out into the sun to allow the product to absorb into the skin. Apply a thick layer to fully cover the skin and all the pores. This method has been tested in laboratories by scientists. However, many consumers tend to apply only a thin layer, which allows some UV rays to penetrate and reach the skin. Experts suggest that if you want to achieve effective protection, sunscreen should be reapplied every 1-2 hours.
  • Even if there’s no sunlight, sunscreen should still be applied because UV rays do not only come with sunlight, but also as electromagnetic waves that can affect our skin. Prolonged exposure to computer screens, being under artificial lighting, and other daily activities can still cause UV damage.น
